Oil Theft: Army pledges support for EFCC

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday pledged its continued support to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) in fighting illegal oil bunkering and other acts of criminality in the Niger Delta.

The General Officer Commanding, GOC, 6 Division Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Olu Irefin, made the declaration during a courtesy visit to the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the EFCC.

“I am quite aware that your organisation cannot do it alone. We will continue to work together,” he said, adding that he was visiting to familiarise himself with officers of the EFCC in order to sustain the synergy between the two organisations.

He urged the leadership of the anti-graft agency in the zone to work closely with the army in addressing whatever challenge that might arise in the course if their relationship.

In his response, the EFCC Zonal Head, Abdulkarim Chukkol, thanked the GOC for the visit and congratulated him on his appointment.

He assured the GOC of EFCC’s support in ensuring that he succeed in his tour of duty, adding that the Commission considers the army as a critical stakeholder in the fight against corruption.

“We are all working together for the greatness of the country. I believe, going forward, with your support we will strengthen the friendship,” he said.
