Killers of my security aide will be brought to book – Obiano

Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has vowed to catch the killers of his security aide.

Azubuike Ekwegbalu, 43, who was over the weekend stabbed to death with a kitchen knife by unknown men in his home at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Awka, was until his death the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Security.

A statement on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C Don Adinuba, said the killers will not go unpunished.

He said the State Government in partnership with the security agencies will do everything in its power to apprehend those responsible for Ekwegbalu’s demise.

The statement partly reads: “Mr Ekwegbalu was a thorough, quiet, unassuming energetic and dedicated security official whose forte was intelligence gathering.

“He had in the last few months devoted his infectious energy and acute professional intelligence to monitoring cults in various parts of the state following an increase in the menace of young cult members in educational institutions and elsewhere. The results have been outstanding.

“Mr Ejwegbalu’s tragic death is serious setback to the fight against the cult menace and crime generally in the state.

“The Anambra State government working with the security agencies will do everything in its power to apprehend those responsible for Mr Ejwegbalu’s death, as we have successfully done over the years in similar deaths.”

The Commissioners’ Quarters where Ekwegbalu was murdered is a known highbrow area where most government officials reside.
