Police arrest gang who robbed man of N5.4 million in Anambra State

Three-man robbery syndicate that robbed one Emmanuel Obi of N5.4 million cash in different denominations at Umuibu village, Akwu Ukwu, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been nabbed by the Anambra Police Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

The suspects include Onyebuchi Osadebe (28), an indigene of Awka Ukwu, Idemili South LGA of the state; Chibuike Ebere aged 23, a native of Isiala Mbano in Imo State; and Umoke Kelechi (22) from Ikwo local council of Ebonyi State.

It was gathered that the suspects went shopping for a shuttle bus and Keke Napep with the stolen money.

Confirming the incident the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said in a statement issued over the weekend: “On July 11, 2020 at about 6:15am at Umuibu village, Akwu ukwu allegedly robbed at gunpoint one Emmanuel Obi his N700,000.00, 8,000 Euros $3,000 dollars and some assorted mobile phones.

“They ostensibly went to market with the money and bought a shuttle and two Keke Napep tricycle.

“By the time the suspects were arrested on the 18th of July what remained and recovered from them accordingly to police were: N610, 000.00, 4,600 Euros and $600.

“Also recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest, according to police were: one pump action gun, one fabricated gun, four live cartridges, one shuttle bus, newly purchased with the victim’s money, two new tricycles and three assorted phones robbed from the victim.”

The PPRO said suspects have voluntarily confessed to the crime and investigation is ongoing after which they would be taken to court.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police Mr. John B. Abang, has reassured Anambra people that the Command under his watch will continue to make Anambra unbearable to the criminal elements until they repent or relocate from the state.
