The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Mr. Anthony Aziegbemi, has insisted that the party’s primaries will still hold on Thursday (June 25) as scheduled with Governor Godwin Obaseki on the ballot papers.

Mr Aziegbemi in an interview with Channels Television explained that his decision is, however, subject to legal advice over the court order.

News Express reports that there have been conflicting court orders on Obaseki’s qualification to contest the PDP primaries. While a Port Harcourt High Court in Rivers State on Monday disqualified him, a High Court of Justice in the Ekpoma judicial division of Edo State on Tuesday restrained PDP from excluding the Governor and the other cleared aspirants from participating in the exercise.

The court ordered that PDP and the electoral umpire should not exempt any of the aspirants who have been cleared by the party from participating in the primaries.

With this decision Obaseki appears to have been given the legal green light to participate in the exercise.
