Man, wife arrested for killing school teacher in Ebonyi

Police in Ebonyi State have arrested a couple for allegedly killing a teacher, Sam Aleke.

Aleke was killed two weeks ago with his body dumped inside his car. Police later recovered the body a few days later.

It was alleged that Aleke’s killers poisoned his drinks when he visited them. He reportedly died after taking the drink while the killers allegedly put his body inside his vehicle.

The deceased did not return home for some days and the family reported the matter to the police who immediately commenced investigation into the matter. The police discovered Aleke’s body inside his vehicle’s boot.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Loveth Odah, said yesterday the command would brief the press later in the day.

However, the briefing did not hold.

But Aleke’s elder brother, who is the member representing Ebonyi North West constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Aleke, said the killers of his younger brother had  been apprehended by the police.

Victor said he employed the  services  of intelligent agencies who traced the killers.

He noted that the suspects identified as Nwibo and the wife conspired to kill Sam Aleke.

The lawmaker added that Nwibo alleged that he met Sam naked with this wife in their house, but that the wife denied such thing ever happened in their matrimonial home.

He said: “I caught the people that killed my brother yesterday. They are husband and wife and they have confessed to the crime. The man who helped them is still on the run but the main culprits are in the police custody.

“The murderers are from Mkpalukwu in Izzi Local Government Area. The man was my late brother’s classmate in ESUTH. Even the wife came to my brother’s house the morning after they killed him to sympathise with his wife who is also her friend. Can you imagine the height of wickedness?

“After she was apprehended, the wife said her husband had earlier told her that he wanted to kill my brother and that she asked her husband what was my late brother’s offence, he beat the hell out of her and threatened to kill her if she disclosed his plan to anyone. So he went and bought poison and gave to her to add it to a bottle of soft drink they gave to my brother.

“So, that very Saturday evening, they invited my brother to their house. When he got there, they offered him drinks which he refused. My brother said he would take Coke, the woman added the poison to his drink. After drinking the Coke, after sometimes, he started complaining that his stomach was disturbing him. He collapsed and they took him to his car with some other unidentified persons and made sure he died.

“The man who killed my brother is in the same club meeting with me. His wife and my late brother’s wife are in the same meeting also. He was a close friend of the family.

“She also confessed that she and my brother never had carnal knowledge of each other. But the husband, from the onset, denied knowing anything about my brother’s murder. He later confessed to the crime.

“He said he killed my brother because my brother was calling his wife on the phone and he was sure that my brother had slept with his wife. He also alleged that he caught my brother in his house naked.”

Victor, who said Nwibo lied that Sam was naked when he saw him in his house, asked who wore the deceased the boxers, jeans trousers and clothes he was putting on.

The legislator also questioned where the perpetrators’ seven children were at the time the deceased removed his clothes and when he was killed.

“Wife of the one who is still on the run was also arrested,” Victor said.  (New Telegraph)
