The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Osun State, has sued Governor Adegboyega Oyetola before Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo over the appointment of Comrade Amitolu Shittu as Director-General of Osun State Security Network codename ‘Amotekun’.
According to the originating summons dated 3rd of June 2020, with suit number FHC/OS/CS/30/2020 by PDP and the acting chairman of the party, Elder Sunday Atidade, obtained on Thursday with stated that the appointment of Amitolu Shittu was illegal, null and void.
The co-defendant with Osun state governor is Attorney-General of Osun State, Security Network Agency, Osun State House of Assembly, The Nigeria Police Force, The Nigerian Army, The Nigeria Airforce, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps State, State Security Services, Nigerian Customs Service, and Attorney-General of the Federation.
The document held that appointment into the office of Director-General of the security outfit is alien to the law that established the Amotekun law of Osun State.
The claimants held that the provisions of Osun Amotekun law have been violated with the purported appointment of Amitolu. They opined that Amitolu is not a person knowledgeable, trained or skilled in security matters.
The document read, “Originating summons brought pursuant to Sections 36 (1) & 6 (6) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria as amended. Let all the parties attend the court as counsel may be heard on this originating summons to answer the following question.
“Whether given the provisions of the Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps (Establishment) Law, 2020, the 1st defendant was justified in appointing the 3rd defendant (Amitolu) as the Director-General of the Amotekun Corps when there is no provision for such office in the law establishing the Amotekun Security Corps in Osun State when the 3 defendant is not a person that is knowledgeable, trained or skilled in security matters as when such an appointment has not gone thro
They also sought for relief of the court to order of injunction restraining governor Oyetola from appointing Amitolu as the Director-General of Amotekun Corps and ordered to stop Amitolu Shittu to function as DG of the outfit. (The Nation)
