Six in police net over diversion of N10m worth of goods

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a six-man syndicate that diverted a truck with goods worth over N10 million from Lagos.

It was gathered that the suspects allegedly diverted a 40-feet container loaded with Aluminium ingot used in making aluminium products belonging to Llyod Industries Limited, Sango Ota in Ogun State.

The suspects include Suleiman Abdulkareem, aged 40 years, from Ibaban, Oyo State; Abdullahi Umar, aged 48, of Jjabiri town in Funtua LGA of Katsina State; and Aliyu Idris, aged 52, of Matsai town in Kaita LGA of Katsina State.

Others are 55-year-old Godswill Ebirim, an indigene of  Okwe in Onuimo LGA of Imo State; Dickson Ada, aged 55, an indigene of Usenu in Ago LGA of Edo State; and Friday Kihodaro, 42-yr-old, of Uhedode in Esi LGA of Edo State.

A statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said that the suspects also trans-loaded the goods in two Steyr trucks with registration numbers ABH 389 XA and UGH 434 XR to Ochanja Scrap Market Onitsha.

The statement reads in part: “On the 27/5/2020 at about 8am following intelligence report, Police operatives attached to Central Police Station Onitsha arrested the following syndicate”.

According to the statement, the receiver, one Godswill Ehirim who was equally arrested allegedly priced the goods at (N2,5,000,000) and also gave the sum of N400,000 to transport the goods from Lagos to Onitsha without a waybill.”

Mohammed said that both the goods and the two trucks have been recovered and registered as exhibits while investigation is still ongoing after which suspects would be brought to book.
