Gunmen kidnap 2 nursing mothers, 3 kids, injure 4 policemen
Gunmen on Tuesday stormed the residence of one Hussaini Ahmadu in Ganye town of Adamawa State and abducted his two wives who are nursing mothers and three children.
The incident which occurred at about 2:0am left four policemen who attempted to rescue them injured.
Residents said a large number of armed men stormed the residence of one Alhaji Hussaini at around 2 o‘clock in the morning of Tuesday and forcefully took away two women and three children.
A family source said residents scared by sound of gun shots ran for their lives during the attack.
The source added that when police men arrived the scene, the assailants engaged them in gun fight, injuring four and succeeding in whisking away the victims.
Police spokesperson for the Adamawa command, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the kidnap incident, saying the police had launched an investigation to track down the attackers.
He said, “The crime took place in the early hours of today (Tuesday) when armed men invaded the house of Hussaini Ahmadu situated at Wukari ward in Ganye town and kidnapped his two wives with two kids.
“The DPO and his team rushed to the scene but were ambushed during the crossfire, four of our men sustained bullet wounds”.
Kidnapping for ransom is on the rise in the north eastern state despite stepped up efforts by the police to end the menace.
The police recently paraded more than 300 suspected criminals including 106 kidnappers arrested in the last three months
