The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Shi’ite group, on Friday, October 18 defied police order barring the outlawed group from any protest.

ABUJAPEOPLE reports that the Shi’ite members were dispersed by the police after they took to the streets demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
Report available to ABUJAPEOPLE revealed that the protest started around the Sultan Abubakar road at about 1.55 pm. They, thereafter, hoisted one red and another black flags while chanting songs to express their grievance. It was learnt that the police shot in the air and used teargas to disperse the protesters. ABUJAPEOPLE earlier reported that members of the Shiite group recently defied police order by embarking on its Ashura mourning procession in Abuja in the morning of Tuesday, September 10. The Ashura procession is an annual religious ritual carried out by the Shia Islamic sect all over the world on September 10.
Participants including men, women, and children held the procession for a few kilometres from Berger Roundabout to Wuse, and hurriedly concluded the exercise to avoid a confrontation with security personnel.
